(LA)HORDE is a forward-thinking collective now heading up the Ballet National de Marseille. Since 2015, they have pursued an ever-evolving choreographic language that mixes extreme physicality and post-internet dance.
In Marry me in Bassiani, (LA)HORDE ventures into the fascinating repertoire of folk dances by the ensemble Iveroni, a Georgean dance company based in Tbilissi, which they met in 2018. On stage the collective brings out these women and men dancers who embody this tradition vividly, complete with upright busts, razor-sharp dance steps and arresting virtuosity. Marriage preparations are underway, symbolizing a powerful ritual where politics simmer under the surface of the party.
(LA)HORDE blends together folklore and electronic rhythms, an homage to the famous nightclub Bassiani, a mainstay of freedom in the heart of Tbilissi. The symbol-packed set builds bridges between history, modernity, tradition and resistance. The piece examines the memory of movement, its cultural background and contemporary resonance.
With its customary audacity, (LA)HORDE explores uncharted territory and continues its mission of shaking up bodies and ideas. A show where heritage is a springboard for invention and dance an act of fiery transmission.
