Hortense Belhôte Conférence spectaculaire : Et la marmotte ?

After the history of female soccer, graffiti women artists and contemporary dance, the actor and popularizer of art history Hortense Belhôte tackles a new subject, mountains. The dancer follows up on her ‘dramatic talks’ – a hybrid form she claims to have originated – a cross between the college lecture and the performance act where she utilizes her video projector, her art history knowledge and actor’s gift of gab. With Et la Marmotte…, she explores the sociology of mountaintops, contrasting the poetic visions of Hokusai’s or Friedrich’s paintings against the reality of the people who live in those landscapes. An invitation to change our perspectives on this seemingly picture-perfect world and adopt the viewpoints of the marginalized and the downtrodden. On this invigorating stroll, where we meet Pyrenean shepherdesses and porters from Kilimanjaro, the performer outlines our future as she leads us through the winding paths of the mountains, looking for political, sociological and ecological avenues.  

Ancienne prof d’histoire de l’art devenue autrice et comédienne, Hortense Belhôte crée des «conférences spectaculaires» drôles, pédagogiques et impertinentes. Son objectif est de populariser des concepts pointus, pensés par des universitaires ou des minorités, de manière ludique et documentée, en bousculant nos hiérarchies culturelles et dans une perspective volontiers féministe.
En 2023, elle crée Portraits de Famille – les oublié.es de la révolution française, qui s’inscrit dans cette vaste relecture patrimoniale au-delà des frontières des arts et des idées reçues. En 2024, elle est artiste en résidence au Musée d’Orsay où elle crée Escape Game XIX, une visite spectaculaire dans les collections.
