Season 23 24
Show
CASTILLO de Prue Lang
CASTILLO is one of these shows and experiences where feelings and emotions trump storytelling. The sole dancer of this piece, Jana Castillo, suffers from a movement disability that Prue Lang uses as a backbone. With unusual tactile, sonic and visual textures, this three-part piece instantly appeals to our sensory intelligence.

Your ticket to the show gives you free access to the Chaillot Experience program (concerts, performances, workshops, films) on the same day.

To Australian choreographer Prue Lang, “physical intelligence” is an idea that dance is more likely to explore than any other art form. In CASTILLO, this exploration translates into a solo danced by the eponymous artist Jana Castillo, with whom Lang has developed a common language since her previous work. Structured into three sections framed by videos that take us behind-the-scenes, the show presents a portrayal of the performer and, somehow, the choreographer, and above all her singular methodology. Suffering from dystonia, a disability characterized by uncontrollably prolonged muscle spasms, Jana Castillo shares with the director a deep concern for the issue of neurodiversity. This is one of the materials used in the solo, which also features a shared reflection on the taxonomy of touch and the use of “Theraputty” – a therapy dough opening up the dancer to new feelings – as a creative tool.
