Every season the Centre national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP) – the choreographic ensemble of the most prestigious dance school – acts like a dance company: deep dives into repertoire works, tailor-made works, touring life and encounters with major choreographers. This year, three pieces drawn from three different aesthetics are refreshingly and precisely performed by this troupe of 12 budding dancers.
With boléro un, taken from the acclaimed trilogy by Odile Duboc, the bodies arrange themselves in counterpoint to Ravel’s music. A subtle and collective landscape-dance where feeling trumps flashiness. This is followed by Entropie by Léo Lérus, which draws intense physicality from Gwo-ka and Caribbean dance, at the edges of chaos and balance. Finally, Join 2, a piece by Ioannis Mandafounis, fills the stage with blazing light and silences, composing a group score in which individual personalities grapple with group movement.
Chockful of a bold energy that will let you discover tomorrow’s leading artists.
