Collectif XY Le Pas du Monde

Season 25 26
Show

For this new work, the acrobats of Collectif XY take on the question of living things. They build mountains with their bodies and moving rivers and forests with their runs. Le Pas du Monde is an attempt to answer the perennial question of the inexorable passage of time.

Observing moving bodies as one would changing nature, the acrobats of Collectif XY focus on the transformations of living things in a poetic and musical show.

After Möbius, a piece conceived in collaboration with Rachid Ouramdane where the collective was interpreting the mysterious score of hundreds of flying starlings performing a polished ballet, Collectif XY now addresses our relationship to living things and the measurement of time. To do so, portés and acrobatics convey and blend two time spans. The time span of a human life, its emotions and changes from childhood to old age, and that of nature whose pace we cannot comprehend. What is the time of a mountain, a forest or a river? How to embody and represent it in proportion to a life? Le Pas du Monde shapes, transforms and deforms the human columns of the acrobats who swap out postures imperceptibly, much like the slow erosion of a mountaintop, and engage in a shapeshifting act, pyramids of rock-bodies tumbling down. Through a sophisticated setup of lights, sounds, breaths and voices – the circus performers’ and the singers’ – the piece assumes a dream-like quality.
