Season 25 26
Show

With Creaviva, Rafaela Carrasco explores the driving forces of flamenco: the moment, the emotion, the connection between dance and music. Alone on stage, accompanied by four musicians, she builds up a living and vibrant work where everything is created here and now. An affecting dialogue between body and sound, movement and soul.

Woman is a creation, argues Rafaela Carrasco. The choreographer and dancer, recipient of the Premio National de Danza in 2023, backs up her point by citing the nine muses of Antiquity, Terpsichore, Talie, Clio and their sisters. These goddesses of Greek mythology are female embodiments of the need of humanity to turn its desires, joys, sorrows and dreams into art. In nine sections featuring dance, theater, poetry, history, debate, music and more, Creaviva delves into their respective worlds as various aspects of an ancient common culture. Rafaela Carrasco willfully establishes a dialogue between her flamenco movement vocabulary and Greek/Latin poetry as well as the rhythms and sounds of traditional folklore, thereby tracking down the “pure movement” at the core of any expression. To craft this ode to inspiring femininity, she brought in longtime associates, including director Antonio Ruz, poet and playwright Alvaro Tato, composers and musical directors Jesus Torres, Pablo Marin Jones and Antonio Campos. Most of these trusted artists were previously involved in her piece Ariadna-al hilo del Mito, which was presented at Chaillot in 2022.
