Emerging in the early 2000s in various Paris-area party haunts, electro dance burst on the scene at the 2007 techno parade. As its name spells out, it works in tandem with electronic and preferably tumultuous beats. Both supercharged, dynamic, ethical and authentic, it despises Tektonic, its commercial bogus variation soon appropriated by mainstream media.

Since 2017, thanks to videos posted on the Internet, it has continually won over followers across the globe. With the pieces Elektro Kif (2010) and Elektrik (2017), choreographer Blanca Li has genuinely vindicated it on the dance scene. In this respect, the young and very creative company MazelFreten proves to be just as prominent, particularly with the piece Rave Lucid (2022).

Launched in 2013, the electro dance world championship – Life’s Round Contest (LRC for the initiates) – has brought even more acknowledgement. Credit should be given to the association LRC Officiel founded by Jimmy Medina (aka Milliard), a virtuoso and champion of the cause who himself has been world champion several times.

After hosting the 2023 edition in celebration of the event’s 10-year anniversary, Chaillot opens its majestic spaces to LRC again in 2024. Accessible to all audiences, the program features high-level solo or group battles, workshops, conferences and multiple impromptus – all in an intensely emulative atmosphere. Embracing a wide variety of bodily expressions, the Chaillot Theater is proving even more this year to be the new temple of electro dance.
