Mette Ingvartsen
Skatepark
Chaillot nomade à La Villette
Skaters, dancers, one stage. A real encounter beyond age between individuals who never stop challenging and pushing the limits of their possibilities.
Driven by an extensive conception of dance, choreographer and performer Mette Ingvartsen explores a hybrid territory in direct contact with other fields such as visual arts and technology. In a wide variety of forms, her projects focus in particular on the relationship between bodies and their environment. A few years ago, Mette Ingvartsen was struck by the performative effervescence in a skate park in her home town of Brussels and felt the desire to bring it to the stage. This is how Skatepark took shape, a large-scale creation that mobilises some twenty performers, half of whom are recruited from each performance city. Conceived as a living, even fluttering, environment shared by different individuals and small groups, the piece deploys a multitude of actions and movements. In close interference with the public space that inspires it, the work transmits throughout an extreme physical jubilation and gives us a glimpse of a lively community in all its splendour.
