Via Katlehong / Amala Dianor / Marco da Silva Ferreira
As part of the France-Portugal 2022 Season
Co-production with the Théâtre de la Ville
Following the huge hit of Via Kanana, their collaboration with the South-African artist Gregory Maqoma, the dancers of Via Katlehong wanted to have two European talents – Amala Dianor and Marco da Silva Ferreira – take on their new work.
Engaged for thirty years in intense artistic work with deep, social and political undertones, the company Via Katlehong Dance stands out by its wild rebellious energy which specifically originates in the pantsula – an invigorating medium similar to hip hop which appeared in South-Africa’s townships during the years of apartheid. Its new piece, Via Injabulo, breaks down into two sections, each one conceived by a major European choreographer. The first piece, førm Inførms, created by Marco da Silva Ferreira, generates a chaotic and whimsical world embodied by kaleidoscopic bodies. The second piece, Emaphakathini, by Amala Dianor, explores the idea of the interzone to develop a highly expressive and powerful hybrid language in close interaction with the performers. A stirring ode to diversity, the ensemble brilliantly combines a desire to share and a joy to dance.
