Lia Rodrigues - ASSOCIATE ARTIST
PremiERE IN FRANCE
Pororoca, a striking piece by Lia Rodrigues, finds new energy with the dancers of the Norwegian company Carte Blanche, becoming Nororoca.
"Pororoca, or how different bodies can come together." This is how Lia Rodrigues saw her creation in 2009. She had placed it under the auspices of the Amazon river: when meeting the sea, it rages and rumbles. This noise is called “Pororoca”. Years later, invited by the Norwegian company Carte Blanche, the Brazilian choreographer has imagined an “augmented” version intitled Nororoca that emancipates itself from this fury, replaced, who knows, by the harmony of the fjords. From Maré, the neighbourhood in Rio de Janeiro where she is based, to Bergen in Norway, Lia Rodrigues weaves a choreographic work rich with encounters, composed of lifts and swings, friction and tugging. In a scenery of recycled objects, she directs a community of united dancers. Fixed on stage, the movement shines through with a thousand details. For Lia Rodrigues, dance also goes via feelings. One simply has to decipher them. In this way, Nororoca can be read as a novel of free bodies.
