After Suite Sevilla and Parque de Maria Luisa, the musical tale Nerja wraps up the Andalusian music trilogy by guitarist Rafael Riqueni.
For twenty years, Rafael Riqueni has written original compositions that straddle contemporary Andalusian music, classical repertoire as represented by the likes of Manuel de Falla, Turina or Granados, and flamenco music. This time around, he has settled on the history of the unexpected discovery in 1959, in the South of Andalusia, of a set of prehistoric caves decorated by a group of young people. Like a tale in sounds, Nerja has us walking in their footsteps, guided by the magnetic Maria Moreno. With a very distinctive personality and shaped by the purest tradition, the dancer is one of the breakthrough talents of the last few years. She turned heads at the 2020 Bienal de Flamenco in Seville and won the Giraldillo “magical moment” award. As to Rafael Riqueni, he has won the Giraldillo award from the City of Seville. A virtuosic concert for a genuine “Fantaisie espagnole”.
