Started by Annie Sellem’s la Petite Fabrique at the beginning of 2000, these Fables de la Fontaine were put into dance by choreographers and enchanted the public. An exclusive remake with versions by Lia Rodrigues, Béatrice Massin and Dominique Hervieu.

“Each piece is fun, just like the world of a child is, and serious as it is too,” Annie Sellem, at the initiative of the project, would say. Seeing them being performed again today is a rare pleasure. A mischievous duo, Contre ceux qui ont le goût difficile enables Lia Rodrigues to pay tribute in her own way. “We got closer to Jean de La Fontaine, his worries, his thoughts and his choices,” adds the Brazilian. “The questions that he raises allowed me to find common traits between the France of Louis, described and criticised by La Fontaine’s sharp quill, and the view that we have and that is laid on us in the Brazil of today.” Béatrice Massin has, on her part, chosen with The Wolf and the Lamb to show the wealth of baroque dance and music, the similarity of eras through the mirror of time. Video, cuts, collages… La Fontaine doesn’t resist to Dominique Hervieu’s fantasy: here he is dressed in shorts and trainers like a wild hip-hop dancer. The Fox and the Crow are face to face in a perfectly executed duo. One finds on stage the elegance of gesture enamoured with the past, but that still remains contemporary.Philippe Noisette
