Since it premiered in 1983, Rosas danst Rosas has been performed over 500 times by 28 dancers across five generations. On a never-before-seen scale, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s iconic work MULTICAST features twenty performers, comprising original cast members and younger ones, gathering around this seminal piece. The language, constructed out of repetitive and plain gestures, combined with uncompromising sensuality, takes on an extended collective dimension where expanding stories intersect and get passed around. The four dancers from 1983 – including De Keersmaeker herself – share the stage with newcomers in a changing of the guard both fascinating and emotional. The choreography subtly reemerges out of the space, creating new vistas without losing its tension or visual impact. Cycles, counterpoints, and familiar moves make up a common body where physical memory is passed down from dancer to dancer. MULTICAST is more than a reprise, it highlights Rosas danst Rosas as living terrain where past and present interweave within the history of contemporary dance.
