Olivier Dubois immerses us in the Egyptian street, its sounds, its rhythm, its culture, its music.
It’s a dance of fire. A tantalising dance born in Cairo on the music of the Egyptian youth, the mahraganat. This electro-rap sound that resonates throughout the city’s neighbourhoods inspired Olivier Dubois to develop a new initiative, that is at once human and artistic. The choreographer, who lives there part of the year, worked in collaboration with the B’sarya art centre in Alexandria to train a team of street performers in contemporary dance. They were accompanied for several months in creative workshops, while three musicians participated in the composition of an original partition with François Caffenne. Itmahrag magnifies new talents of a popular genre and talks of the overexcited daily lives of the young Arab generation. ISABELLE CALABRE
