How can dance choose to not draw its creativity from the fatality of the end of the world, but on the contrary propose an alternative, a strong awareness, an opening to a more luminous future?
The party has been devoured. The bodies are exhausted, the souls are washed out. It’s the aftermath. Tatiana Julien takes this word to imagine what an “after” dance would be in a post-apocalyptic world. As if everything had to be demolished and one had to reinvent each movement and each gesture, drawing from the simplest of actions, the most physical, the most useful of raw and archaic dances, with bodies oozing and smelling. A collective sequel to the individual revolt of Soulèvement, presented last year, A F T E R brings together eight dancers to talk of the desire of starting from scratch when faced with the democratic and environmental crisis, with violence and disobedience, to propose to us a future that, even if it isn’t radiant, is at least unpredictable. A preamble, according to Tatiana Julien, to create a resolutely empathic dance, a dance of life, freedom and love. AGNÈS IZRINE
