Solo but not alone: in this piece, Philippe Decouflé bares himself in a balancing game between him and us, the spectators. Infinitely multiplying himself, his dance finds matter for dreaming.
A small amount of sweet madness is most certainly needed to dare to go back on top of the page of this Solo, at a time when most dancers are retiring. Philippe Decouflé has taken it upon himself to dance in the first person without however turning it into an ego trip. Solo has nothing autobiographical, but is just as extraordinary, like a workshop of choreographic wonders open to all. With the help of accomplices such as the video artist Olivier Simola and the musician Joachim Latarjet, Philippe Decouflé endlessly multiplies himself, daring the ballet of images and occupying as never before the theatre’s space. Almost as if he was not alone on stage. “Doubt inhabits me”, explains the choreographer in the opening of this piece. Referring himself to René Descartes: “I am not this assembling of members that one calls the human body”, Philippe Decouflé makes Solo an inside adventure, but first and foremost a fabulous tribute to dance.
