Nacida Sombra (“born shade”) resuscitates on stage four notable women of Spain’s Golden Century: Saint Theresa of Avila, María de Zayas, María Calderón aka “La Calderona” – and sister Juana Inés de la Cruz. These freedom-loving artists - a solitary mystic, a relentless warrior, a provocative dancer, and a stunning intellectual -  each left a legacy in the form of poems, letters, dances or short stories. Rafaela Carrasco, choreographer and former director of Ballet flamenco de Andalucía, brings these women to life through the flamenco medium and the musical landmarks of the baroque era. In other words, the nacidas sombras rekindle the light of our consciousness in the 21st century.
