KHAOS
Ginette Laurin
Vibrancy, generosity as well as depth and subtle writing characterize Ginette Laurin, one of the most active artists of Québec’s bustling choreographic scene today.
Much about Ginette Laurin lies in the very name of her company, O Vertigo: vertigo, performance, movement. A performer acclaimed in some of the pioneering companies of Canadian dance, Ginette Laurin reinvented herself as a choreographer in the early 1980s and created her company thereafter. A fondness for risk-taking and physical performance are consistent features of her work, with humor as a foil. La Résonance du double, Point de fuite or La Chambre blanche were memorable pieces. With KHAOS, her latest choreography, Ginette Laurin promises to « capture chaos, mess with it and enjoy it ». She interrogates the world we live in, one that is shifting and pushing us around, turmoil in which bodies have to find their place. KHAOS also intends to be a space marked off by vertical sticks with sensors, “like border areas, prisons or makeshift shelters” to escape the madness of present times. Ginette Laurin’s dance invents vistas that are movements to share. KHAOS is an infectiously energetic piece for 9 dancers and, above all, a hopeful work.
