The Italian prodigy, unfamiliar to French audiences, will present Circeo at Chaillot for the first time. A telluric and celestial choreographic piece. Eight dancers take us into their hypnotic metamorphoses.

Circeo is this mythical Italian mountain overlooking the Tyrrhenian sea, where the hero Odysseus meets the witch Circe. Fabrizio Favale draws from three geographic locations – Mount Circe, the neighboring Vavilov plain and the Icelandic ice volcano Hekla. And his inspiration is the divine enchantress, daughter of Helios and magician, presiding over human transformations through spells, poison and potions. The artist designed a “non-choreographic and spatial dance” performed by eight powerful men: a primal movement pared down to its essential circularity, broken down into sensual arabesques and winding lines. The Italian choreographer, who drew attention with Ossidiana at the Biennale de la danse 2016 in Lyon, examines the polarities of man and cosmos: speed and slowness, nighttime and daytime, fire and ice. For twenty years, in Bologna and elsewhere, he and his “supplicants” (based on the company’s name Le Supplici) have explored the motifs of the universe, its poetics and mysteries. Let’s meet them.
